September 14th, 2008 - Team EGO takes Team of the Year (See Cover Story)

May 10th, 2008 - Team EGO nets usually hits the wall with the second leg of the Flatsmasters "The Redfish Classic".  This year we seemed to be hitting on all cylinders coming into this tournament.  2 weeks prior to this event we were out checking some of our spots and we hit the motherload of redfish.  We caught 40 redfish in 2 hours from one spot.  We knew if these fish were there that we had a good shot at getting 14 lbs each day of the tournament.   It was a long two weeks hoping those fish stayed there and no one else found them. The day before the tournament we were out prefishing and went to check on those reds.  Well 10 minutes after pitching in the first bait we had 3 reds to the boat and one a perfect slot fish.  That was all we needed.  We left to go off and get ready for the next day.

The first day we got to our spot and started fishing.  After 10 minutes of nothing the fireworks started,  as fast as you could get your bait under the trees you would be hooked up.  We caught red after red and ended up catching round 50 fish from that one spot.  Most of the redfish we were pulling out of the mangroves were overslot fish, however we managed to get approximately 10 of them to fit under the 27" line.  We brought back 2 reds weighing 13.42 lbs (6.95 & 6.47) and squeeked our way into the top 5 to fish on Day 2 with the cameramen onboard.  We knew it would be tough fishing in our spot as we had beat it up to make Day 2.

We got there and fished it hard, we ended up getting 11 reds from the same spot on Day 2,  one was right near the top of the slot and the other was around 3 pounds.  We needed to upgrade and we needed it fast.  We went to a couple spots that we had prefished and came up blank.  I told the guys we needed to start running and gunning to spots that Derek and I fish regularly and catch fish.   At our second spot it happened,  not more that 5 minutes of being there we hooked up with a nice redfish.  We though it would be close to the top of the slot and when we got it on the boat we knew it was good.  Once we layed it on the measusing board all doubts were off as it came in at 26.5".  Out goes the 3 pound fish and in comes the 6 lbs fish.  This was at 2:30 and we needed to make the long run back up to the weigh in.  At the weigh in we started in 5th postion.  We set the bar high with a 6.37lb fish.  The next closest team had a 5.73lb redfish.  Round 2 we knew we had a bigger fish that was barely under the line.  Once it measured it weighed in at 6.84lbs to give us a total of 13.21lbs.  We were able to walk away from the rest of the teams as no other team was able to break the 6lb mark.  It was a great feeling to get into the top spot again!!!  The tournament will be televised on SunSports channel in June/July.

March 29th, 2008 - Team EGO nets hit the the first tournament of the Flatsmasters with hopes of getting all 3 species (red, snook, trout) on artificial baits.  After a quick stop we had a red and trout in the livewell.  With hopes of getting the elusive snook we set off to the next spot.  We were able to upgrade the red but never managed to get a snook.  We hit several other spots as well and with the same result.  After getting to the weigh in word quickly spread that only 3 snook were weighed in all day.  We knew we had a good redfish as it was just under the 27" slot limit.  We weighed in 9.28 lbs.  We ended up in 6th place, one out of continuing into Day 2.   We did weigh in the largest redfish on Day 1.  We are looking forward to the Redfish Classic that is taking place on May 10th.

February 2nd, 2008 -  We are pleased to announce our affliation with EGO nets.  We believe thier product is top notch and are very excited to represent a company that has the same values as we do. We will be fishing the Flatsmasters series under the EGO brand and hope to do well.  You can read the press release at www.egonets.com
